Henrik Blicher Schmidt has a solid background in mechanical engineering. He started his research carrier in 2000 as a PhD student at the Technical University of Denmark - DTU. After finishing his PhD project on "Modelling the thermomechaincal conditions in Friction Stir Welding" he has been working at DTU as an Associate Professor. HBS Engineering was founded in May 2006 as an independent consultanting company in the field of mechanical engineering and product development. This way competances in solving scientific and industrial problems have been obtained. Since the company was converted into an ApS in 2010, the main focus has been consultance activity - bringing simulation of Friction Stir Welding to the industry. Since 2021, HBS Engineering ApS has been a member of the IW C-III-B-WG-B6, Friction Stir Welding of Steel working group - developing the ISO/PRF 25116 Friction stir welding — Steel standard.
